Project Oceanology has secured grant funding for the Connecticut Coastal Connections Program, pairing different schools to explore various Connecticut habitats. The Science and Tech has been invited to participate alongside students from Bacon Academy, Colchester.

As part of the program, both schools will host a workshop for students to explore and interact in a classroom setting. Friday, STMHS hosted a workshop where students discovered more about ocean chemistry and marine animal identification. The students who participated were from Mr. Mulligan's Early College Experience Oceanography and ECE Environmental Science, as well as Dr. Beebe's ECE Biology. Upcoming field workshops throughout February, March and May, will analyze seal and eagle populations, as well as trawl the New Haven harbor. Each trip will also allow students to collect data on environmental conditions for processing at the workshop in April at Bacon Academy.

“We are very grateful for the invitation; the first workshop was an overwhelming success”, said Chuck Mulligan. The following trip is February 18, to study seal populations off of the Groton coastline.
