STMHS Recognizes Student and Staff Member of the Year

The New London Board of Education recognized Science and Technology Magnet High School (STMHS) senior Delaney McPhail, staff member Stephanie Zauner and STEM Magnet Middle School student Jamesha Singleton-Weathers as February students and employee of the month Thursday evening.

Delaney McPhail has been honored as the NLPS Board of Ed. February student of the month, while being congratulated as the STMHS student of the year. “Delaney indeed represents all that we expect to see in our students,” Laurelle Texidor, STMHS director said. McPhail commented that it’s all about using time wisely, “It’s a matter of prioritizing,” she stated. She has impressed and continues to impress her teachers, fellow students and the staff members, exceeding as the basketball team captain as well as serving in multiple roles as treasurer of the National Honors Society, co-president of the Neuro-science Club and vice president of her senior class.

Sixth grade STEM Magnet Middle School student Jamesha Singleton-Weathers is making her mark within the school system, “We’ll be watching you,” Superintendent Dr. Manuel J. Rivera said. After her recognition as February student of the month she said “Thank you for the opportunity. It’s really wonderful and I enjoy being in STEM.” At sixth grade she is already a powerhouse balancing Forensics Club on Monday’s, New England Science and Sailing (NESS) on Tuesday’s, girls fitness on Wednesday’s and Drama Club on Thursday’s after her regular school hours.

“She is our right hand, left hand, right leg and left leg,” Texidor stated after the honoring of Stephanie Zauner who has been working as the STMHS secretary for four years now. Zauner has been working within the New London public school system for 18 years and as a previous testament of her skills, has been honored as employee of the year at New London High School  in 2008. “There is no better staff to work with and I’m proud to be a Whaler,” Zauner said in closing of her second honoring for employee of the year, this time with STMHS.
