The students selected included New London High School seniors: Lance Thatcher and Kerian Ortiz; and Science and Technology Magnet High School seniors: Logan Champagne, Elijah Goode, and Mekih Rodriguez.

The Electric Boat Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP) is a work-based learning internship intended to expand and enhance the high school student’s knowledge of actual work experience to better facilitate the transition from school to work.

Electric Boat recognizes that manufacturing is and will continue to lose many skilled workers as they retire over the next decade. It is in the best interest of the company, as well as our local community to collaborate with local schools to introduce young people to high skill, high wage advanced manufacturing careers.

Select local high school juniors with technical experience were offered 6-week summer internships. Interns must be at least 16 years of age, a U.S. citizen, enrolled in a career and technical education program, and have completed their junior year of high school. Interns worked side-by-side with trained mentors who have years of shipbuilding experience.

We thank Electric Boat for their outstanding community support.
